A PLEASANT SURPRISE
Generally I don't like surprises, therefore neither I welcome them nor their authors. But here I feel obliged to thank the one that has been for me the surprise of the year. And that surprise has a name BOLIVAR SOLOISTS. And I don't say this because this group has included my "Fuga con Pajarillo " in their repertoire: the sound of this quintet is so pure and their players of such a high quality as the arrangements they play that one remains hungry of their music after hearing them.
The original version of "Fuga con Pajarillo "for strings orchestra was recorded in London with the English Chamber Orchestra; the acceptance of this piece among musicians and audiences has been such that the piece counts now with arrangements for Flute Orchestra, Clarinet Quartet, Saxophone Quartet, Woodwind Quintet, Woodwind Octet, 12-piece Saxophone orchestra and Full Symphony Orchestra. Being the last version commissioned by maestro José Antonio Abreu and was part of the repertoire that serve the young conductor Gustavo Dudamel to win the first price in the international conduction competition in Bamberg, Germany.
